IED beON concept

Transportation Design students from Turin's Istituto Europeo di Design will present the 'beON' concept as a full-scale model at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

beON is a state-of-the-art ecological vehicle that doesn't sacrifice the thrill of driving. The challenge of the project was to create a model that was not just 'useful' but also aesthetically sophisticated, with startling lines, that might provide new hybrid technologies with greater visibility and appeal.

The two seater off-road sports car has been designed to travel over deserts, beaches and wild terrain, as well as negotiating the urban jungle, offering its passengers high interior comfort together with the opportunity of enjoying the view outside the cockpit. The flowing exterior, embracing and protective like soft skin, changes shape and colour, creating empty spaces that emphasize lightness and enjoyment. The sun-roof, made of glass and plexiglass, adds to the feeling of being completely immersed in the surrounding environment. BeON is powered by a hybrid thermal-electric engine connected to a hydraulic transmission system placed within each wheel hub. This ensures excellent off-road performance and also acts as the braking system, eliminating traditional disks and calipers.

The beON concept is 3860mm long, 2100mm wide, 1600mm high, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm.
